Youth 4em

December 7, 2010

In October members of the Youth 4em visited addresses of vulnerable and elderly residents, offering crime prevention and safety advise for halloween and bonfire night. Signs were given to the residents to put up displaying “no trick or treating” of they did not support it. Advise was also given to the residents for darker nights during the winter.

In November members of the Youth 4em worked together on a litter picking project on Blakesley Recreation Ground. PCSO’s Olly Bailey, Jenny Lewis and Elechi Ako-Agugua worked alongside 7 Youths and gathered up 3 bin liners full of litter.

As a reward for the Community Projects members of the Youth 4em were taken ski-ing at the Ackers Activity Centre.

Drugs, CS and £15,000

December 5, 2010

A drugs warrant was executed at an address in Tyseley whereby a quantity of cannabis, numerous cs gas canisters, and approximately £15,000 was recovered. The cash is seized using our powers under the proceeds of crime act and there is a possibility of it being retained if the courts instruct us to do so. The money seized under proceeds of crime can be used for funding community projects. This is yet another great result where criminal activity has been dealt with.

TACKLING ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR IN SOUTH YARDLEY

October 12, 2010

Residents in South Yardley are invited to speak to their neighbourhood police officers about anti-social behaviour, at a newly introduced public meeting.

The South Yardley neighbourhood team are to pilot a joint meeting with the Birmingham Anti-Social Behaviour Unit (BASBU), where residents can voice any concerns about anti-social behaviour in their street.

The first meeting will be held on Friday 22 October, between 2pm and 4pm, at South Yardley Library.

Sgt Jo Roberts, from the South Yardley neighbourhood team, said: “This first meeting is a trial and, if successful, we will introduce regular anti-social behaviour meetings.

“We are aware of the impact that this behaviour, caused by a small minority, can have upon quality of life for our residents.  That is why we are offering our communities an open forum in which to discuss any concerns they have.

“It is essential that police and agencies such as BASBU work together to address anti-social behaviour, as together we can deliver solutions and protect our residents.”

Fun Day success

October 2, 2010

A Fun Day was held by South Yardley Neighbourhood Team on Saturday 25th September at Yardley Primary School, Harvey Road. The event was organised by PCSO Jenny Lewis and aimed to bring the local community together and raise money for the charity NSPCC. As well as West Midlands Police, the event was supported by the council, local businesses, victim support, fire service, youth workers from The Pump and The Vibe and a local scout group. Traffic Officers also attended the Fun Day and offered the chance for children to sit on a traffic motor cycle. The fire service provided a demonstration of how to safely remove a person out of a motor vehicle involved in a traffic accident, and a group of youths from Street Games, The Pump performed a fantastic Street Dance routine. With thanks to the partnerships who supported the Fun Day and the local community who attended the event, we raised a total of £387.10 for the NSPCC.

Beggar arrested

October 2, 2010

Officers from South Yardleys Neighbourhood team arrested a female for begging in the local area. The female was charged with the offence and subsequently convicted. In addition a criminal anti social behaviour order (CRASBO) has been granted by Birmingham Magistrates preventing her from carrying on. If she is found in a specified area she is liable to arrest and possible imprisonment.

This issue was raised as a neighbourhood priority by locals and we hope this goes a significant way in preventing beggars from returning.
